The Fourth City Sisters formal Habit consists of a simple floor length black Burgundian gown with fitted sleeve. The design was chosen for its versatility in flattering all body shapes and sizes, and for the classic French feel it gives, which hearkens to our St Louis roots.
It is belted at the waist with a simple white cincher, and has an inset panel at the chest which features the rainbow colors of Pride.
Instead of the traditional bib, our formal includes a broad white choker, a design which more members felt comfortable with, and to give a nod to our calling as Servants to the Community.
Our stole is a simple white V-neck stole with a tail in front, featuring our house logo at its heart. This design is representative of the three rivers of St Louis converging with our House serving all sides.
The Fourth City Sisters formal coronet was initially designed for simplicity and affordability while still giving an impression of nunly grandeur.
It evokes the Arch of St Louis, as well as the French Colonial essence of our region. It also shades the eyes better in summer and keeps the head cool without impeding neck movement.
Its base is a simple black colonial hat with wire rim that is then bent, shaped, and formed into a double Arch whose sides cup around the face, leaving a v point.
The veil is attached over the crown and pinned to each side, flowing down. The formal jeweled brooch is then attached in the center front.
